FAQ for Preparing Your First Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Session at Core Fitness

Your first musculoskeletal physiotherapy appointment will start with an initial assessment.

A physiotherapist will ask you many detailed questions about your pain or injury and what are your goals for treatment.

The Physiotherapist will then request you do some basic movements in standing, sitting, or lying positions and observe your movements from a distance. They may also move your limbs to check flexibility or may palpate (feel) to get a sense of what is happening in the tissue or joint.

Be sure to give your physiotherapist feedback on how it is feeling. These tests are designed to help your physiotherapist diagnose your pain or injury, and then determine the best treatment plan for your condition.

There is a huge array of treatments that the physiotherapists at Core Fitness can do. Below is a list of the most common treatments:

Manual Therapy – Myofascial release, joint mobilisation, manual stretching.

Clinical Pilates Exercises – All physiotherapists at Core Fitness are certified with the internationally acclaimed Polestar Pilates Rehabilitation course. They will be included in Pilates exercises in your treatment program depending on your condition.

Electrophysical Agents – Electrotherapy is used to speed up the body healing and assist in your rehabilitation process. These therapy involves:

  • Ultrasound Therapy which is effective in reduce swelling for acute injuries
  • Shockwave Therapy used to break down adhesive scar tissues and improve blood flow
  • Radiofrequency Therapy for effective for pain relief and recover faster from injuries

Postural Correction and Exercise Prescription – There is a real connection between physical injuries and misaligned posture. At Core Fitness, we can address and treat posture related pain and imbalance.

Advice and Education – Our physiotherapists are knowledgeable in body anatomy, we will give you advice for preventative measures in your daily activities, such as explaining the ergonomically correct workstation setup or correct technique to carry things.

Post-Rehabilitation Pilates – For clients who are interested in further strengthening their body and challenging more advanced exercises, we will handover to our in-house Pilates instructor to continue the exercise regimen.

Your physiotherapist will decide upon what treatments will be the most effective for your issue.

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy seeks to minimise your pain and discomfort, including chronic and acute pain. Your physiotherapist will communicate with you throughout your treatment and work within your pain threshold to help you heal, and restore movement and function effectively.

Be sure that when you are going to your physiotherapy appointment, you wear something that makes it quick and easy for the physiotherapists to assess the area. If you are dealing with a lower body issue, bring shorts, your regular footwear and any orthotic and braces you may use. For the upper body, I always recommend women wear a tank top or a top that is baggy enough to move out of the way. It is important that you are comfortable, so dress as if you’re going to the gym.

If you have any recent reports from your doctor involving details from a surgery, MRI or X-Ray results or doctor’s referral letter you may bring those for us.

All physiotherapists at Core Fitness are fully registered with the Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC) of Singapore. We will be able to issue you an invoice stating that you have received physiotherapy treatment and any additional report that your healthcare insurer requires. Please check with your health insurance service provider if your policy covers physiotherapy. Most insurance companies require doctor’s referral for physiotherapy.

The charges for our standard physiotherapy treatment are $170 per session with a physiotherapist and $180 per session with a senior physiotherapist. All prices are net. For further pricing information, please refer to our price list.

Each standard session is 55 minutes which includes assessment, manual treatment, electrotherapy and/or clinical Pilates exercises as prescribed by our physiotherapist for the condition being treated. We are advocates of training good movement habits to prevent re-injury. We include movement training using exercise therapy and clinical Pilates to reinforce the health of your muscles and joints, therefore our typical treatment sessions are longer than most physiotherapy clinics.

We do offer 45 minutes and 85 minutes sessions as well. You may discuss with your physiotherapist to determine the optimal treatment duration for your condition.
